Today’s mallets are tomorrow’s collectibles.
Our mallets are crafted to be durable and last a long time with you. Properly cared for, they'll become more beautiful and uniquely personal with time.
PRODUCT CARE
Since wood mallets are used for crushing and striking, scarring and dinging may occur over time. The wood may also darken with use. This is natural and adds to the beauty of a well-loved tool—it's how you make it your own.
Gentle Ways To Clean Your Wood Mallet
- Brush off crumbs and wipe clean with a damp cloth, or rinse with mild soap and water. Hand dry with a towel.
- Use a stiff bristle brush to remove sticky substances, then wipe away residue with a damp cloth.
- Berries and citrus foods may affect the natural finish if left on for extended periods. If staining occurs, lightly sand the affected area, then apply RMP Finishes Cutting Board Oil to restore the finish.
- Never let your mallet soak in water. Wood is porous and will absorb liquid, causing warping.
- Never put your mallet in the dishwasher or use abrasive or chemical cleaning products.
- We recommend pounding raw meat only with an impenetrable barrier, such as plastic wrap or butcher paper. Direct contact with raw meat creates unsanitary conditions that are difficult to properly sanitize.
Apply an oil finish
A coat of food-safe RMP Finishes Organic Cutting Board Oil is applied to all our mallets. Over time and with regular use, the surface may appear dry—this is normal. We suggest applying a coat of RMP Finishes Organic Cutting Board Oil or another food-safe cutting board oil to restore the wood's soft luster. Always follow the product's safety instructions.
LEATHER STRAPS
Our straps are high-quality leather and will last many lifetimes.
- The natural-colored straps are vegetable-tanned leather, which will take on a slightly darker hue with age. Applying coconut oil or a leather specialty oil will hasten the process.
- The cordoba-colored straps are also vegetable tanned leather and may darken a bit over time.
